Introduction:
The State of Vermont allows for Expungement of criminal records if an individual successfully completed a deferred sentence, if there was an arrest that did not result in conviction, or in some instances where an individual had a juvenile record. An Expungement removes criminal records from public access.
The power to pardon is possessed by the Governor. A pardon alleviates an individual from further responsibility and punishment for a crime. Receiving a gubernatorial pardon can allow an individual to gain better employment opportunities, restore the right to serve on a jury, and to apply for certain professional licenses.
